WEDGES | |
The need to by-pass an obstruction in a drill hole or to cross-cut an ore body at a predetermined depth or to straighten a hole that has started to deflect; or to recover an additional sample of a formation previously drilled are all reasons for using a deflecting wedge.
There are two distinct types of wedging operations. The first, is a straight deflecting operation where the direction of deflection is not important. This is generally the case when by-passing an obstruction in the hole. The second, is a directional deflection operation where the direction of deflection is a critical factor and must be predetermined and then accurately controlled.
