Steel drill rods
for conventional drilling are manufactured in both DCDMA and Metric
standards in the following sizes; EW, AW, BW,
BWY, NW, NWY, HW, 33, and 50 .
Skilled
workmanship and close inspection of raw materials and finished products
result in a high strength and uniform drill rod. Rod couplings, which are
subject to heavy loads, are manufactured with special care from heat
treated high quality alloy steel for increased strength and resistance to
wear. Conventional drill rods are always furnished complete with a
coupling. Spare or extra couplings are available.
Conventional
drill rods and couplings can be furnished with left hand threads on
special order only. Left hand rods are generally used when it is necessary
to fish out core barrels , rods or casings, which are stuck in a hole and
where recovery can only be accomplished by backing off the line of tools.
When
measuring drill rods, the length of the rod includes the body of coupling
but does not include the projecting pin thread. Thus, a 3.0 m. rod
combined with the coupling measures 3.0 m. when made up into a string or
line of rods. |
