Although designed originally to secure undisturbed samples of cohesive silts and soft clays, the Thin Wall Sampler can now be used successfully for sampling “hard to hold” materials.
This sampler should be forced into the soil by pressing or jacking under steady pressure. In some cases it may be necessary to drive the sampler lightly. Its construction prohibits heavy driving.
The recovered samples are generally suitable for most of the various laboratory tests.
